Music Video Comparison
Music Video
Love is on the Radio – McFly
This music video is a conceptual idea, I know this because of the fact random situations come up in the video, an example is when the boys are singing about magic being everywhere when you are in love and then a person dancing with a ribbon, I can see that this is metaphorical because the person looks like they are casting a spell with the ribbon. This music video can also be a performance because they are all playing their instruments, this part of the video also adds to the conceptual idea because on their faces they are wearing masks of emoji’s and because emoji’s are popular with teens right now they then have something to appeal to their pop fan base.
Though out the video there all kinds of people in the video and this makes it appeal to other people that like other genres, an example is that the band when they play with all their instruments they are wearing emoji masks and because emojis are popular with teenagers right now they then have something for their fans to relate to.
This video also widens its fan base because of the different types of people they have in their video, they have a deaf person, and older lady and a girl covered in tattoos, this sends the message to people watching the video that McFly is for everyone and that they don’t just target one type of person.
Galway Girl – Ed Sheeran
This video is a mixture of conceptual and a small bit of narrative, this is because Ed Sheeran is running all over the place with this girl and from what we can see and listen we get an understanding that she is the Galway Girl that he is singing about, they run about getting up to all kinds of thing and also things that Ed singing about, an example is “she beat me at darts” and it shows them playing darts.
The conceptual side is that these two people are just running about Galway and getting into trouble and doing things you might only do once when you are young and crazy, this can relate to a teenage part of Ed Sheeran fan base and impulse them to go out and live their live the way Ed does.
The thing about this music video is that it is shot from Ed’s point of view of what is going on so for this they could have used a GoPro or something similar, from this we get what it’s like to be Ed Sheeran this amazing guy who sells millions of albums a year.
How this helps my video
From these two videos I have found different things that I would like in my music video. The things I have taken from both these videos are the fact I want there to be a lot of running in my video meaning I want it to be fast paced and for the video to make the audience feel that life is going by so fast and that if they have the chance to do something that they should do it before life catches up and you can’t do anything anymore. The music video will contain a group of friends doing all sorts and running from thing to thing. From McFly video I have taken that fact that the band just does random things and that’s what I want for my video.
Stand by Me Review
Stand by Me Review
Stand by Me is in my opinion an amazing movie, this is a movie I found that you could not stop watching for a second in fear you would miss a vital part in the story.
This movie is a kid dream come true, to go in the woods with your friends and play and then come across a dead body because you all hadn’t seen one. This movie brings adventure and heart break and has everything you imaged as a child.
The storyline is something I found so interesting, the way it is presented is that a man is looking over his childhood memories and is writing them down for a newspaper article, so this movie brings and element of nostalgia and from that point makes the older audience look back on their childhood adventures they had as a kid with their friends and then it makes a younger audience think about what they want to do with their friends and how they want to go into the woods and let their imagination run wild with finding dead bodys and running into a used car place and wreaking havoc.
The setting of this movie is also very good, the movie is set in a small town with little things here and there, like the train tracks the junk yard and the forest in which lies the dead body. I found these sets similar to what an adult would remember from their child hood, in what I mean by this is, that the movie is a memories being explained to us and so the places the person is recalling are simply shown in the movie and the only sets that go into great detail are where most climatic stuff happens, so the woods with the dead body, the car junk yard with the supposed killer dog all the locals ae afraid of and the tree house that the boys have the idea of going to find the dead body in order to get famous and let’s not forget the train track where the boys almost died.
The movie is well written, lots of jokes that children and adults wood get and there’s also serious parts the movie where climatic parts take place, an example is the reliving of the dead body and how it all goes quiet until we hear the narrator explain how he was feeling in that exact moment directly to the audience.
I found the revealing of the dead body the most exciting part of the movie because it’s what the boys have been camping out and looking for.
Contextual Analysis
Project: Tracking books to schools - Malawi
Description: To understand how textbook distribution works in Malawi through contextual analysis
I will be joining a team of developers and researchers in Malawi, early February 2016. Our goal is to observe how textbooks are distributed in a country where there is a shortage of trained teachers, learning materials, and classrooms.
