My sister gave me a revelation. The quote, “the customer is always right” doesn’t pertain to giving the customer whatever they want. It actually has nothing to do with customer service.
It’s in reference to stocking and marketing decisions.
For example:
“Hey, there’s a large demand for this item brand.”
“But there’s this item brand! And it’s better quality!”
“Don’t matter. The customer is always right!”
Basically, it’s about what items they choose to stock based on overall customer demand. They get what the customer wants, since that’s where their money is going to go.
It’s mind boggling. When taken in its original context it sounds so much more understandable.
