In canon there's not really anyone it makes sense to ship him with other than Effie. He's basically a recluse and she's the person he sees the most each year, so a connection is inevitable. People who say it's a ship that couldn't work are just idiots who wouldn't understand these characters if they punched 'em in the face. Considering the other female characters he even interacts with in canon... there's Katniss who he would never consider in such a way, no matter what a strange minority of the fandom write. Johanna who there's potential for a one-night-stand kinda thing but certainly nothing emotional. There's Mrs Everdeen who I don't think would be interested in another relationship since her husband. Hazelle who we never see him interact with directly? And Coin? I don't think Coin would go for the resident drunk if she was after a new partner, and I don't think he'd go for her either. Beyond that... he's like the papa to all the Victors so it doesn't work with any of them, and Mags is of course like his mother. In a younger verse everyone seems to ship him with Maysilee even though that itself is ooc and illogical considering he had a canon girlfriend back home. To an extent I ship him with Hazelle but at the moment it feels too beautiful as a bromance to think about taking it any further. And in an AU sense he could be shipped with Maysilee -- like if they both survived the Games, eventually they'd probably get used to having each other around and find some comfort there. But there are some things beyond canon, like other characters he's met, who I see the potential with. Like there's flirting and chemistry and it could be good. But in most cases it never goes anywhere and I know a few of the muns it's happened with in the past shipped hayffie so I have to assume they don't want anything more between our muses. It'd be nice for a change to have chemistry between two characters and a partner who actually wants to see where it could go, instead of them defaulting to having their character tease him about his crush on his Escort. Which itself isn't even relevant to every verse (as I mentioned in a post no one probably read a while back) so y'know.

I do think Effie's Capitol voice (the high-pitched sing-song voice) is part of the act. I think she puts it on a lot, especially during the Reaping or when she's trying to keep up her ignorant act. There'd come a time as she kills more and more kids in her job when it takes its toll and she realises it's not all just fun and games, and that'd be when her act becomes both more exaggerated and more difficult to keep up. She'd have to force it more, hence the ridiculous, grating Capitol voice Katniss mentions all the time in the books. I don't think it's her true voice. I think if she's not trying to keep up the facade, she can be a little calmer with the whole thing.

Effie comes home and they've trimmed down one of her old wigs and put it on the baby and there's toys everywhere and a goose is running around inside and it's chaos.

People who define him as a drunk or a liar make me so angry though!! They pick apart what he says and does and try to make him out to be a villain. Like they'll take one sentence he says and hate on him for it regardless of the circumstances around that one sentence and Haymitch is so much more than a drunk or a liar. He's the guy who, despite the fact he and Maysilee were just allies and she broke off the alliance, ran away from the safety of the cliff edge into the poisonous forest full of mutts only to be too late to save her, and despite the mutts that had just killed her moments ago, he stayed and held her hand. He didn't know her much, but he didn't let her die alone and afraid. That's compassion and kindness. He's the guy who, despite knowing he has nothing to go back to after the war and knowing he'll have no happy ending, dragged himself through life-threatening and agonising withdrawal to try and guide Katniss as best as he could and fight in a war he probably expected to die in. People jump to the defence of the characters who 'fought for everyone' or 'fought for their families' or 'fought for the greater good', but what about Haymitch? They'll peg Haymitch as nothing but a manipulative and selfish liar when he fought knowing there'd be no reward for him at the end of it. Knowing he'll just be going back into his solitude to drink loneliness and misery away until he finally dies. Where's his defence squadron every time someone hates on him? Right fucking here. That's where. He's not just an angry, bitter drunk. He's not comic relief. I refuse to play him as if he's nothing more than those things. What people forget too easily is that Haymitch is a fucking genius. He's got such a sharp mind, especially when it comes to strategy. He knows how to play a crowd and he knows how to survive, and this knowledge is what he passes on to the kids even though to him, they're two more kids he's gonna have to watch die. Two more people he's gonna grow to care for and ultimately lose horrifically. And he deserves more credit for the good things he does, rather than the hate he gets for the few times he says something in a moment of anger or fear. Anyway I'm sorry for the rant I just threw at you. :') I love you.
