Aarron Walter of Rocket Science Group, makers of MailChimp gave a talk a short while back to the CHI*Atlanta group on Big Data UX.  

Here's how that talk was set up: "Big data is helping many companies become smarter. Now it's empowering UX practitioners to see patterns in mountains of data that would otherwise be underused or overlooked. Customer feedback, trends in support issues, analytics, usability test notes, customer interview transcripts, tweets, blog comments and more can be connected and searched to find serious flaws in designs and inform the next iteration. Research has always been a core part of the UX workflow, but after a study ends, the wisdom gained often slips into obscurity and is never seen again. Aarron will share advice on how to centralize all research data and stream new sources into the pool so you can learn more about your audience and make smarter design decisions."

I wanted to attend Aarron's CHI*Atlanta presentation back in November, but, alas I was unable to. 

So I was happy to come across a link to this video of a presentation Aaron gave at the Web Directions conference in Australia in October:

"Though design research has become common practice at product companies, it often produces insights that slip into the hazy distance as documents get lost on a hard drive, or ignored by someone in a different department. Worse still, efforts get duplicated when communication breaks down.

"UX teams have design research down to a science, but few have discovered a way to connect qualitative and quantitative data, and long histories of research into a central clearinghouse that can be shared, searched, and maintained by different teams. Open access to information strengthens the connections between teams, and supports a general culture of inquiry. In this talk, Aarron will share with you practical methods to get off the research treadmill and get started building connections between data and teams."
