I wish people gave the same excitement for other life accomplishments that they do when someone gets pregnant and/or engaged/married.
This might be a hot take or selfish, and I know those experiences are wonderful, but there’s something about those celebrations that feel more… worthy? Perhaps I’m projecting since I feel I haven’t done anything worthwhile. That I’m not in a relationship, or having kids, or getting engaged at this age.
And I think it all boils down to society pushing that family life. I think it’s better now, but I still feel that pressure and guilt every now and then that my life isn’t as “it should be.”
I saw a video where this woman says, “I love my children so much, I’m never going to have them,” and continues to discuss that they may get the worst parts of themselves. Not in appearances but of the mind and soul. Another video I saw talked about how they were born to be pet parents, rather than human ones. So, I try to see things differently, but it’s hard to keep that mindset when that’s not what you grew up hearing and then seeing everyone around you pregnant and married.
