I read episode commentaries on Tumblr on Tiny, and I haven't seen Lost (except for accidental parts of it; my parents love it and had it on telly often when it was the hot thing; I saw a couple of episodes and declared it unwatchable) so when I read lists of Lost references in the Tiny episode online, I felt like this was the reason the episode felt like such a weak dive for me.

Having 40 minutes, usually divided into intersecting cuts of two 20 minute plots set in different times and spaces, I don't understand why they choose to give up precious seconds of those 20 minutes they have in favour of self-referential circle-wanking when they could have thrown all that time and energy into the characters.

Two things that were kinda important to the over-arching plot of plotness were established: 1) The giant dwarf is in possession of a plot device. 2) Rumpelstiltskin can't use magic on epic field trips.

The above is what the episode was about. They used 40 minutes to bring up the above. This is why this show is so slow. 

Less important things that happened that I eyerolled at: 1) We already knew that Greg Knew Something. He hassling Belle about it for a minute didn't really bring anything new to the table, and for me I just don't have a clue why that scene was there, nothing was actually established and nothing changed. 2) David's name is David how interesting 3) David's brother's background story and the 'your super special heart' lol who cares.
