Some of our perm queen’s permed hair in the 80’s, now if you could perm hair then you can defiantly do it now with ease! There was a difference in the way we styled it as you can see below but the techniques are still the same and unfortunately the smell is too!
I’d like to share some valuable tips as perms look great in pictures but need a little tlc. Remember not many perms are wash and wear, this means we advise you to style them and use products in your hair for the best results.

If you have Virgin hair (no color and no previous perm) there may be a possibility it does not take, also if you are pre-teen hormones can effect the outcome.
Wear something loose around your neck, there is a chance you might get a little wet (sometimes we can’t help it)
If you have one length hair I would suggest layers so your hair is not so heavy.
They should neutralize your perm for at least 5 minutes.
Wait 24-48 hours before you shampoo your hair, this let’s all the bonds in the hair seal and strengthen in their new position.
Now you have that beautiful perm, look after it! That means using the right shampoo and conditioner, your stylist is best to recommend the best one for your hair type.
Dry your hair slowly with a diffuser attached to your dryer and try not to fluff the hair too much until its nearly dry (that’s my secret) then you can start to scrunch with your hands and move the hair around to get volume in the roots.
I have my go to favorite styling products I will share with you, Aveda Be Curly draws in the moisture to the hair and adds spring to your curl.
Aveda’s Confixor is a light weight gel that holds the curl without weight and smells amazing ( to disguise the perm smell)
