It’s an average day at a small but welcoming anime convention, the first time he hears the words.
“I challenge you to a duel!”
he glances down to the lanyard hanging around his neck, excited for the very first duel of the con season.
He meets the challenger’s eyes, trying to get a read on his opponent before drawing his card.
He reaches into the badge holder on his lanyard and pulls out the card closest to him.
This is risky, he knows.
He tries to hide his grin as the card comes into view. Scissors. Super rare. Only 10 ever made.
“If you win, you’ll take my rarest card.”, he tells his opponent with a straight face, hoping that the heart of the cards is on his side.
The challenger’s smirk falters before returning, more determined than before.
“Ready?” he asks,
This is it.
Everything rides on this moment.
He can feel his heart beating in his chest, the excitement making it pound like a drum.
“ROCK”
They shout together,
“PAPER”
they ready their cards, preparing to reveal them,
“SCISSORS”.
