Concept Splitter: An Extraordinary Everyman Part 2

Say what’s up to our second Everyperson! Je’Ia Sme’hi is a game hunter for a small local town. They do their job with little fanfare.

Though they always happen to be in the right place in the right time.

No one has ever gotten lost traveling between Je’s little town and one of the many larger cities they have to trade with. Je makes sure no one realizes this is because they are pushing the townsfolk in the right directions around the very dangerous forest that keeps the small town safe.

This entry is the definition seat of my pants. I like the idea now though, and having to introduce them with the DM’s help. Like, the party has solve the problem of Je essentially being the sole reason the town isn’t dead to get your player to join.

Is that difficult and antithetical to how games are run in giving the party an easy get together excuse?

Concept Splitter: An Extraordianry Everyman

The goal with this concept splitter is to create a D&D adventurer who uses their amazing powers!...for generic every day bull shit.

Take Wilton Wurk! The closest I have come to a self-insert in any D&D character. He’s a bureacrat! Quite simply, he is an assistant for a local public notary and solicitor: Mary Markens. While Mary is a regular in the courts and making other appointments, Wilton is seen more often in her stead.

Oddly, no one can say they have seen them at the same time.

Wilton is a wizard in his spare time, part of his job collecting signatures and names has led him to discover a new working of magic, Onomancy. He experiments with the names he collects, but only in little harmless ways. He is aware of the serious damage it could cause, but is attempting to find a way around that.

Yes, this character is based on a dead UA class that is so good but requires so much DM love to really excel.

Concept Splitter: Built Wrong, Works Right  Part 3

Sammie is angry. An always angry pixie. He got the name from supposedly taking down a Pseudodragon with his own two hands. He doesn’t argue the story...but it would be a miracle.

I have an argument with myself over the best way to mechanically represent a pixie barbarian. A Pixie Barbarian shouldn’t have high strength...but then you take way the Barbarian’s ability to draw heat. A Pixie Barbarian Great Hammer shouldn’t do 1d12 damage...but repeat previous statement about drawing heat. A Pixie Barbarian shouldn’t have a 1d12 Hit Die Pool, but then a Barbarian’s Rage ability is significantly effected.

So...do I do all of these things and make play as him fully dependent on creative play and a relaxed and creative DM? Do I do one or two to get the message across but make him still effective in battle. Do I do none of these and make him a contradiction only in role play?

Or do I do some other thing? Keep his Con low and make Dex his main AC stat?

Do I break the class to make the character I want?

Concept Splitter: Built Wrong, Works Right. Part 2.

This second built wrong, works right, is Adel Netel, a Blind Ferrett Shifter whose is a Cleric of the Light. Just the light. Purely because it is all he’s ever known or seen, as his visual disability is caused by a constant over-bearing light. And it has only lead him to good things.

Not going to lie, I have done no research into the visually impaired to determine the best way to go about this play. I only have the following two concepts on how best to make this a more interesting role: - A DM approved Blindsense, out to 10 to 30 feet. Not exactly original, but it gives him independence. - A more intriguing idea, a PC or NPC aide that helps him help others or attack those hurting his party. The lazy version of this is to run a sidekick, so...playing two characters at once. But the shared backstory or under-powered DMPC that can lead the party in the right direction are all interesting possibilities.

Concept Splitter: Built Wrong, Works Right

The concept this time is a character whose design is antithetical to how they are built, both in game and out.

In this case, a Wooden Warforged named Discover made by their creator to assist in robbing the many graves the maker needed robbing for experiment supplies and gold. Problem is, Discover was also programmed to be obedient. While they would obey their creator when ordered to do illegal things, the rest of their program was held to local government standards. So when their creator died...well...their express built purpose became incredibly hard to complete without being told by someone to do so.

My plan for when I play this character is to have Discover roll Wisdom saving throws any time they do something against local laws without express permission from a PC holding their control stone, which would be chosen at random by the DM.

Concept Splitter: Traveling Acolyte Part 3

Our third Traveling Acolyte is a bit of a re-skin of a character very inspired by Mollymauk Tealeaf a long, long time ago. His name?

Royale Tyur. (I think is was a combination Pulp Fiction joke and on a quest joke.)

The first run of him was as a Paladin Loyal to his own crown, except it was stolen, with a quest to bring it back. I was re-developing his look in an effort to create for this bubble, and I thought, why is he chasing the crown? He is the crown. And he is looking for his court. A Traveling Acolyte that isn’t his own God, but is serving his own concept of royalty and a monarch. Is it a twist of ‘Traveling Acolyte’ as the Acolyte is creating the Ideology sure, but that is part of what makes ideas special.

Concept Splitter: Traveling Acolyte Part 2

My second Traveling Acolyte is a character that has lived with me awhile, as I never got to play him to his fullest potential. As such, I have a lot more lore behind him, and a lot more thought put into him.

Conur Year: A Warlock who gained power from a Celestial creature named Ercles, who has achieved enough power to create miracles. He just doesn’t know who deserves them or what ones to actually do? As such, he chose three champions to go out into the world and determine what were humanity’s biggest problems. Whether with their own eyes, through conversation, or through their own generosity. Conur is charged with doing it through conversation. And he is very good at conversation, considering he has spent years supporting his family through fast talk and quick feet.
