I forgot to tell y'all about my favorite noncustomer this weekend.
Guy comes up on Friday, manhandling one of my scale bags. Cue the usual smalltalk and then me mentally zoning out as he tries to explain my own designs to me. (This itself is not new.) He made a joke about my fingers being tired. I explain that humans have been using tools for centuries and chainmaille is no exception. (This joke is also not new.)
Him: How much to make one of these this size, but no scales?
Me: uhhhh. No idea. I don't make that.
Him: okay but if you did? I like your work.
Me: *shrug* I make scale bags. Not plain ones. My work is what you see on the table.
Him: well, you think about it. I'll come back.
I forget him, because hundreds of people passed by over the weekend and he didn't buy anything and didn't really stand out aside from being deliberately dense.
I didn't recognize him at first, because I genuinely didn't think anybody could be Like That.
Him: so, did you come up with a price?
Him: can you take a guess what it would be?
His wife(?): we only know a couple of chainmaillers. The other one makes shirts and basic patterns.
Me: that's the person you want then.
Him: no really. Throw a price out there.
Me: you know what? It'll be at least $150, and 1/3 of that is a "pain in the ass" fee.
Him: but.... I can get one cheaper online...
Me: you have your solution right there
Him: maybe a different pattern?
Him: and I do know I'm a pain in the ass
Me: ........I actually meant the project, but you aren't wrong.
Him: *starting to walk away* maybe I'll just email you...
Me: *raising my voice as he wanders off* PLEASE DON'T
