The past week-and-a-half has taken its toll as each day I realize what was in my car when it was stolen. Hundreds of dollars in music theory & music history books, $150+ in makeup & brushes, $200+ in dress shoes & tennis shoes, $300+ in clothes & other everyday things, $200+ in Irish gig stuff. But I’m gutted about losing the personal items that have no monetary value but lots of emotional meaning to me. Things such as the sunglasses my daughter bought for me last June. And the earrings & scarf she got me as an early birthday present on our last outing together before I left. Then there’s the silver bowl given to me years ago as a handfasting present that held my lifetime collection of bicentennial quarters. And the 3 stuffed animals my daughter & I got over the years as representatives of our animal guides. These things have been in my car since I left Mississippi. I have parked this car overnight in states all over the country. I’ve parked my car all over Los Angeles & never jad a problem. But within 3 hours of being in San Francisco, my car was stolen, along with every personal momento inside it, many of which I’ve had for years. I’m thankful I cleaned out my car of the music songbooks, my Irish drum, stereo, & other items. And I’m super thankful I took my backpack with me because it has my laptop in it. I would be having a VERY different experience if I’d lost my laptop that holds all of my original writings, music, & projects – not to mention years of photos. In fact, I started to leave my backpack in my car then took it out, “just in case”. I haven’t told my daughter that I’ve lost the sunglasses or the earrings or the scarf. I still don’t have a new driver’s license/ID…. It’s a lot to process…. Ugh....
