This is what it looks like when I am attempting to teach my Awesome Assistant Becca how we start to calculate a proper #piano hammer Strikeweight curve while simultaneously gauging both the Front Weight of the key as to keep it under the "FW ceiling" and creating the desired leading pattern in the keystick to maintain a consistency of inertia while playing dynamically. It's pretty sweet because we also calculate the friction coefficient of every key tested to address it as needed. It is a pretty tough subject for a lot of piano techs (myself included), but she is hanging in there! Next, after we work on this somemore, the weight of each hammer will be matched to our desired curve by either removing material or adding small lead weights carefully to the hammer mouldings. #componentbalancing #pianotechnology #physics #finecustompianokeys #madeindetroit #playedallovertheworld (at Detroit Pianoworks)
