Elements cannot deepen their sophisticated relation and harmony while they continue to multiply
Don Paterson, “The Poem, Lyric, Sign, Metre.”
“Dinosaurs, dragons, sci- and comic book characters are popular too: this is perhaps because no one knows what the subjects actually look like. So the origami artist can manipulate his subject, having no living example as a reference point. Huge liberties of proportion and form can be taken, to be accepted by the critical observer, probably scarcely better informed. ”
Dave Brill
"The level of complexity that can be achieved is impressive, but there are actually only a few folds used in origami, which can be combined in different ways to generate a myriad of shapes." Feature in Nature on protein folding.
But I could appreciate this fundamental lesson of invention in nature: Simple elements make complex patterns. While no single definition encompasses every act of invention, the essential similarity in the process, no matter what the field of endeavor, hints at something profound about nature.

This was made with a multi-colored sticky note packet. The inside colors I had to trim down myself to the correct size. Again it’s photographed with my blurry cellphone :/
But when you feel like posting something during your lunch break at work, your blurry cellphone camera is all you have.
This is my favorite image for an avatar. It’s from a while ago using my blurry cellphone camera. But this is my most complex combination layered modular origami piece. I’ve seen interlocked modular origami creations, but not any layered ones. This was made using PHIZZ units of various sizes.
I don't like many very complicated models because I think that the final result loses something of reality. I like nature and my principal aim is to give a little breath of life in my models.
