Their first day on Coruscant, Kix plugged his datapad into the network for an update, and found a quiet corner of the GAR HQ to read in. There were so many notices to catch up on, from proper triage in the field to a recall on certain surgical needles.
The quiet corner just happened to be a near-empty holonet lounge, only one screen playing news from the front in the corner on low volume. Just when Kix had started a new page of notes, he felt someone grab his head from behind..
“Hey, Kix! What you reading?” The brother rested his chin on the hands folded over Kix’s head, and Jesse plopped into a chair next to him.
“Hardcase,” Kix guessed.
“It’s about me?” Hardcase laughed, grabbing for the datapad, but Kix quickly pulled it out of his reach.
Hardcase let go of him and vaulted over the chairs, crouching to face Kix with a face-splitting grin.
“Oh, yeah,” Kix said. “It’s about you. Or it will be. I bet I’m going to have to patch you up more than anyone else in the battalion by the end of it.”
“You’re reading medic stuff?” Jesse frowned and raised an eyebrow. “But we’re on leave.”
“Oh. And I’m supposed to just ignore all the things I should know by the time our leave is over?” Kix laughed under his breath.
“Kix,” Hardcase said seriously. “A very wise Jedi--or someone anyway--once said, ‘Don’t let life get in the way of living.’ Now come on, I’ve got something to show you!”
“Uh... I’ll remember that next time saving your life is getting in the way of living.” Kix rolled his eyes, but he let Jesse pull him up out of the chair.
“Come on, Kix, it’ll be fun.” Jesse slapped his back gently. “So, uh... where are we going?”
Hardcase ran around behind them to put an arm around each of their shoulders to haul them forward. “Well.....”
completelysane kinda tagged me sorta, so I’m kinda sorta tagging you if you want because it’s morning and I’m running away from my responsibilities like a champ.
nickname: Ree!
star sign: Cancer
gender: female
height: Uh. Um. 5′7″? Around?
time & date: 8:31am 6/4/15
average amount of sleep: Oh, average...probably around 8 hours? I haven’t gotten that in a few weeks, though, due to time zones and skyping and event running.
lucky number: 17 AND 7, because I can totally have two.
last thing I googled: "ok google image search” with the voice function on my phone, which did absolutely not the right thing and then I promptly gave up and procrastinated with some other activity.
how many blankets do you sleep with: Right now one blanket and one sheet. But it’s a super awesome heavy duty cuddle blanket.
fave fictional characters: ohgodidon’tknow Um. Probably Lord Vetinari? And Sam Vimes. And Granny Weatherwax. But also Jonathan Strange, and Fat Charlie, and Crowley, and Jeeves, and Atticus Finch and ohbacktoDiscworld Rincewind, and so many more. I can’t pick just one. And if we’re talking OCs, probably Julie Dichen at the moment, but it changes all the time. She’s just silly.
fave books: Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell. Night Watch. Guards, Guards. Sex Criminals. Hyperbole and a Half. Good Omens. I need to move on before I list my entire bookshelf.
fave musician: Right now it’s Mumford & Sons, especially their new album. Also always and forever Marina and the Diamonds. Mainly all indie songs I’m generally a fan of. But also, on a swing dancer side, Slim & Slam. And everything Ella Fitzgerald ever did.
last movie I saw in the cinema: Pitch Perfect 2. It was about as ridiculous as I would expect, and I laughed a lot.
dream holiday: Beach house vacation, with me and people who don’t count as “people” to my introvert brain. Lots of sand and writing and art.
dream job: Storyboard artist, for a company like Pixar. I’m slowly getting my shit together and starting on a portfolio, so next time there’s positions open somewhere for that kind of thing, I can apply. I can just do that and write books and never ever sleep.

I'm sure 343 does. Tbh I'd be interested to see Denning novelize Reach: for all that he'd write a male Six, he has a proven track record of being good at writing a lot of death. I plan to get the next few Halo books from the library, not buying.
You know, a novelized ‘Reach’ might be something I think I wouldn’t mind seeing either...aside from the default-male!Six thing as well. XP
Thankfully Denning’s talent for writing a lot of death won’t be applied to Blue Team for this next book though (phew!)...Yeah, I usually flip through new book releases at the the bookstore over a nice beverage at the snack bar. And if I can live without it for a few weeks from there, the library it is. So this will definitely be the same.

I only have reliable memories of two of his Star Wars books. Most of the others were part of a series I didn't care for. Of those two, one was the very good middle installment of a 19-book series, and the other was, frankly, a bit awful.
Hoo-boy. @_@
Well thank you for the heads-up. I guess we’ll find out which side of Denning we’ll be getting come September. Honestly though, even if the plot is a train-wreck, as long as the characters themselves aren't a total mess I could probably at least live with it. And if Traviss could pull off Blue Team as well as she did...perhaps 343i provides the authors with character notes or something?

I thought of you when I found out that Halo: Last Light would involve Blue Team. Are you looking forward to it?
Lol. If I’m something my friends immediately associate with Blue Team, my goal has been achieved. :B
I think the premise sounds very interesting, and also the new book will be another good way to give Blue Team a little more exposure before ‘Halo 5′ comes out. I just hope this new author gets their personalities right. It’s hard to trust anyone but Nylund with them; but Traviss (other major issues with her books notwithstanding) actually did a really good job with their characterization in ‘Glasslands’, so I’m keeping my fingers crossed Denning can do the same. And if he can do that and successfully execute the story as a whole, I’ll definitely be adding a copy to my Halo collection. I’ve seen that he’s actually written quite a few Star Wars books - do you know anything about his work, or have any opinions on him as a writer?
#Halo 5 aka 'we got the band back together'
...Amazing.
