New Video: 5 Comping Exercises for Jazz Rhythm on the Blues
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6U10Q1T1w9c&t=0s&list=PLWYuNvZPqqcGTdnqZOFzWKvTvYClWhkmS&index=20
Rhythm is much more important than notes. This is very true for jazz and certainly for comping. The easiest way to learn some new rhythms for your comping is to come up with some small riffs and practice playing those through a chord progression. In this jazz rhythm guitar lesson, I am going to show you 5 great variations on some great Comping rhythms and how they sound through a Blues In F.
If you want to practice them with me then you can go to the examples via the link in the description of this video. I'll talk a little about that later.
Hope you like it!

Beautiful Chord Ideas That Will Boost Your Comping
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gtHGlJbTu4w&t=0s&list=PLWYuNvZPqqcF5S1dyREhN6BRUot19Oj7U&index=25 Most of the time when you think about comping you are concerned with the chords, voicings and rhythms you are using. Those are of course important but there are also other things to consider when Comping and playing chord melody that can really transform how your chords sound. This video is going over 4 examples of ways to play chords that can help you add something new to how you sound when you are comping or making a chord melody. In my experience, being a jazz guitarist you spend a lot more time playing chords than soloing and that skill is something you want to take as far as you can! Hope you like it!
Comping - Are you practicing the right way?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xCV3X02HfhE&t=0s&index=22&list=PLWYuNvZPqqcF5S1dyREhN6BRUot19Oj7U Do you practice comping? And how do you work on it? For me, Comping is really fun because it is about playing together with other people both the soloist and the rest of the rhythm section. The most overlooked part of comping is being able to convey and feel the groove, we always talk about the voicings and the rhythms. Maybe it is also the most difficult, but in this video I want to show you how to train your fingers, your groove and your ears to comp better. The biggest part of my working life is comping for other people so besides the fact that I find it fun it is also a huge part of my income and something I spend a lot of my time doing. Hopefully I can help you develop you comping skills a bit. Hope you like it!
