World Refugee Day is marked on the calendar on 20 June. On this date, tribute is paid to the resistance and strength of all refugees in the world who were forced to flee their homes due to persecution, calamities or war. On this day, celebrities record videos in support of refugees, refugees are invited to tell their stories, among other activities that take place around the world. A “refugee” is a person who is persecuted because of his race, birthplace, religion, social group or political opinion and who is outside his country, unable to return there due to persecution. It is estimated that there are over 45 million people around the world who have been forced to find a new place to live. The world regions with the most refugees are the Middle East, Southeast Asia, East Africa and the Horn of Africa. According to the European Parliament, in Europe, the countries that offer the most protection to refugees are Sweden, Germany, France, Italy and the United Kingdom.
