Zovariy had learned the margaven's habits enough by now to leave decoys of certain things. Namely tools — grooming included. Thus, the clippers they used for their own fur was tucked elsewhere.

Alcohol was trickier, as it seemed Kjoll's nose was finely attuned to it, and that he would find it regardless of where it happened to be stashed. Not that the latter mattered much, in their eyes — it was better, even, not to have the temptation of partaking lying around. Irritating, but welcome in that regard — not that Kjoll had to know that.

Why did they put up with him enough to become habit? A question frequently thought, enough now that Zovariy could not simply wave it from their mind. It was far less a problem about Kjoll, more one about themself. A thought that came to their mind often enough that it is the action of glancing at the silver fur and not initially giving it a second thought itself that brings them to pause.
