Day 1: Rage Against The Machine: This band has been the one that is closest to my heart. I got into them through a friend around my sophomore year. I didn't think much of them except for the funky riffs. I liked them musically. I learned a song or two by them and left it at that. Eventually, I listened to them more and I paid attention to what Zack was saying vocally. I did more research into them and I realized that I agreed with them more and more. I listened to whole albums and memorized lyrics. I bought the pedals that Morello uses to emulate his playing style and I even covered his songs. I fell in love with them. I sat down one day and analyzed every part of their hit single, "Killing in the Name Of." Everything sounded so perfect, so solid. The riffs connected so seamlessly and there were no awkward parts or awkward rests. It was just a continuing train of perfection. Many people I know disliked the fact they were a band that rapped and talked about politics. To me it made no difference. Rapping to me is just another way to vocalize and I have no problem with rapping as long as the lyrics had meaning. The bass lines stood out a lot for this band and that was something I came to appreciate as time progressed. Brad WIlk, their drummer, sounds amazing and never disappointed. That is why I love Rage Against the Machine. Because they stood for what they believed in, they played really well written music and they inspire me every day. They show me that things can be worth fighting for and everyone has a voice.
