Dichorisandra thyrsiflora is in the family Commelinaceae. Commonly known as Blue Ginger, it is actually not related to true gingers (Zingiberaceae) but has a very similar growth pattern. Plants can have both perfect and male-only flowers, which are arranged in an inflorescence known as a thyrse. Blue Ginger has been found to be pollinated by bees through buzz pollination, where the bees vibrate in the flowers to cause the pollen to exit from the anthers.
