I passed!!
I passed both my USMLE and my COMLEX, making me *oficially* allowed to be a third year!
Shhh don't tell them I've been rotating for a week and a half already... oh what's that? They registered me on this rotation as a fourth year to get around that loophole? Good job med school 😂
Today is my last dedicated study day before my COMLEX tomorrow, which means it's my last study day of second year! (Barring any terrible and unforeseen circumstances of course) Honestly after taking the USMLE it was really hard to motivate myself to study for the COMLEX for the rest of the week, but it's almost over. I can't wait to be done and be on vacation. I thought I would be more excited for third year than ever at this point but I just want a break so I can do nothing but lay outside in the sun and read a book for fun. Oh yeah... and train for a triathlon, plan a wedding, prep for third year, and shove a year's worth of visits with friends and family into two months... but mostly just rest 😅
I took a half day off studying yesterday in celebration of being done with the USMLE, but now I'm back full force studying OMM for my COMLEX on Monday. Honestly, I'm a lot less stressed out now because I've learned all the material for the USMLE, which is the same material that the COMLEX uses, so I really just have to focus on the extra 120 OMM questions that come with the COMLEX. The fact that OMM is intuitive to me coupled with the fact that the COMLEX asks questions in a more straightforward manner than the USMLE (think "this patient presents like this, what's the best treatment for their diagnosis?" instead of "this patient presents like this, what is the third molecular messenger that is activated after they were given the drug to treat the infection they had in childhood that predisposed them to getting this?") have me feeling much better than I did for the USMLE. It almost feels like the purpose of the COMLEX is to ensure we are able to act as rational physicians rather than to just haze us into the medical field.... weird...

My USMLE is on Monday and I had a bad study day. I studied pharmacology and it made me realize how much of the basics I had forgotten from first year just because I studied the drugs with their organ systems instead of in their own unit. The hammering of my brain with all this terrible memorization that I've forgotten then caused me to do poorly on my questions of the day.
Now I'm regretting everything. Taking the boards before the very end of May, taking the USMLE at all, hell even going to medical school. I could've been a great engineer and I'd be buying a house like my friends right now instead of miserable and feeling like an idiot.
But it's too late to change my test and technically I have gone through all the material at this point. I guess I'm just gonna try to pass and give up the idea that I could be a neurosurgeon if I wanted to. I've always been leaning toward family medicine anyway so hopefully even with the merger they'll still take me as a resident if I get a low pass on step 1.
The worst part is that the little things I don't know wouldn't going to make me a bad doctor, but failing out of medical school would.
