If you attend an osteopathic school, you've undoubtedly heard of this book
However, since I just finished a set of exams consisting of my OMM written final, OMM practical final, and the COMAT, and learned that many of my colleagues have not read this book I'm going to tell you all about it anyway.
This book contains a nice summary of how to diagnose common findings, and techniques. The high yield topics are put into nicely labeled "trigger point" boxes, which comes in really handy for last minute cramming.Â
Possibly the best part is while the book looks like it may be intimidating, half of it is practice exams. Having so many questions is really nice because, as you may know already, reading through the tricky questions can often be harder than the question itself.Â
It also has great tables of muscle origins and insertions.Â
The one thing I didn't like about this book was it mentioned some outdated information, followed by saying the information was outdated but added for "completeness sake." I didn't much like that, especially since none of it was taught in our class and the last thing I need is extra information that isn't important.Â
Overall, I thought this book was a fantastic summary of the topic, and very well organized. I'd recommend it as a review for reading after completion of the course, prior to taking examinations. The information was presented differently than the order we went over it in class, and because it's so succinct, it may be hard to understand while learning the material for the first time. It also works very hard to be complete and explain things in the different ways that some schools teach, which again can be confusing.Â
