i was talking to a friend about story development and told them i always think of the different styles of writing as analogous to richard williams' three styles of approaching animation. (pages taken from The Animator's Survival Kit)
people who plan their entire script out before even starting a comic would fall on the farthest end of pose-to-pose, while people who start from the blank page with no plan and just start drawing/writing, building as they go, would be the most extreme straight-ahead type.
i think most people end up some kind of hybrid as williams recommends, but most hybrids still favor one end. i don't have the exact shape of all my comic arcs planned out, but i know the landmarks i'm bending towards, so i'm a straight ahead-like hybrid with "planned poses" studding the path along my way
