Comic Books Saved My Life
I know, I know. I’m rolling my eyes too. But they did.
’K nerds, I know none of that is true. I know enough about comic books to know that. I am not going to claim unearned geek cred. I am simply going to explain how comics have not only opened up whole worlds of stories and characters for me; they’ve opened me up more fully to becoming the person I was meant to be. They have changed my life. Twice.
The first time was in 2007, or possibly 2008, depending on whose drunken memory you trust — mine, which is akin to that of a goldfish with the alcohol tolerance of a college freshman (because I was a college freshman at the time); or my co-worker Chris’s, who was definitely drinking way more than I was back then, but has the memory of an elephant, and the alcohol tolerance of a fish who is also an old-timey journalist.
