#JackedKirby - Monolith Three Ways by Kirby! ⬛️⬛️⬛️ Having just witnessed the amazing 2001 comic series art exhibit put on by the @kirbymuseum this past week I am still in awe at how powerful the images from the Treasury Edition were. It’s as if Jack was photocopying the screen and bringing Kubrick’s visuals to life on the page... it is awesome! ⬛️⬛️⬛️ I was recently going through it again and I noticed these 3 splash pages featuring the Monolith scattered throughout the issue. There are a few other shots of the Monolith throughout the book, some Big and some small... but these three were the main ones so I decided to highlight them. ⬛️⬛️⬛️ The first one is from the opening page of the story, and starts us off on the right foot. It’s one of Kirby’s classic “Prequel Splash” pages that is out of sequence and probably takes place later in the story... but he gives it to you right off the bat! ⬛️⬛️⬛️ The second image is of the crew from the moon landing when they are about to pose for a selfie with the Monolith. Kirby uses some lighter blacks and Kirby Krackle to provide an image of the Monolith that is fluid and constantly changing... almost liquid! ⬛️⬛️⬛️ The third is from much later in the book, a pic of the Monolith floating through space in all its cosmic glory!!! The colors and outer space backdrop are absolutely fantastic... this image sums up the beautiful job Kirby did on bringing the world of space to life in this Treasury... ⬛️⬛️⬛️ Check out Episode 8 of The Jack Kirby Podcast where we discuss the 2001 Treasury Edition with @joseph_milazzo_art !!!
