Corrections on Fantastic Four 2018 Issue #20 page 2 Paco Medina on pencils and inks Jesus Aburtov on colors
The BIGGEST thing here is that Sky was originally given way too many joints.
I circled all of the places where it looked like there was a bend in her wings here. On the left wing I counted five and the right wing I found four. Obviously this is incorrect. A bird wing, like a human arm, should have three main joints. A shoulder, elbow, and wrist.
The other fixes all blend into each other, when I fixed the number of joints, I could also fix the pose, and then the feather layers. I could also add in scapulars and make the secondaries go closer to her back. Remember, a wing should have feathers nearly all the way to the body. Large gaps between the body and the secondaries will lose you lift, and also just look strange. I also dropped the secondaries down lower on her body and made them larger. This is a personal preference, on humanoids I tend to make the secondaries go at least to the butt and preferably I drop them to the back of the knee.
For the first pose I tried to stay more with what the artist had drawn. It looks like sheâs holding one wing out and kind of over them? and then the other is held back a little. So I pushed both a bit more and used one wing to cover a bit of Johnnyâs head while dropping the other down and back, and had it a bit more folded. The second pose I actually like a lot. It looks like Val is looking at her wings. So I thought, maybe sheâd want to extend one over to her, to maybe let her touch. Since theyâre talking about if theyâre real or not. I think it would have been a good idea to have other characters interact with the wings, especially if theyâre a part of the conversation.
