HOW TO WRITE FOR COMICS PART TWO

DATES:  TUESDAYS 7 – 10pm, April 28 – June 9 2015

FEES:  $340 (for students who have taken this class before, and would like to repeat it, the price is $290)     Payment accepted by cash, cheque or PayPal (There will be a fee for NSF cheques).

Because class space is limited, if you find that your schedule/plans change and you are unable to attend the class, please let us know as soon as possible so that another student can attend.

PREREQUISITES: How To Write For Comics Part One or How To Make Comics (formerly Comic Book Bootcamp Part One)

MATERIALS:  bring what you need for taking notes; laptop, paper, pencils, pens, etc.

How To Write For Comics Part Two grounds the student in the rules of plot, character, dialog, scripting and storytelling forms, we step up to a master class on practical writing. The students will learn the standard applications of tropes and genres, the rules of pacing and scene work, the secrets of world building, character bibles, supporting casts, sub-plots, comedy writing, ongoing series and much more.

Like all our workshops, we’ll be creating scripts and stories in class under a deadline. This time around, we’ll expect a complete short story about half way through, and by week seven students be pitching their own original series or graphic novel to the group. Bring your brains, and have no fear.

You’ll need something to write on, paper or laptops, whatever you prefer to use, as long as you can make it legible to fellow students.

Ty's first ever completely official classes under the banner "COMIC BOOK BOOTCAMP" start next Tuesday. First up is WRITING FOR COMICS PART ONE, then Wednesday he'll be teaching DRAWING THE HUMAN FIGURE FROM YOUR HEAD. 

Later today, I'll be checking out my new classroom space (Keiren checked it out first, before signing the lease with our new studio-mates)--really happy to be striking out on my own. It's going to be a great space, and I'll be sharing it with interesting, creative people, although I'll be there more in the evenings, and they may be there primarily during the day.

As soon as things are 100% official (Keiren is nervous until all the t's are crossed, and the i's are all dotted), I'll be announcing my first classes, prices, etc.

Ty Templeton's COMIC BOOK BOOTCAMP!!

Today is the last session of my last course with TCW (I'm still leading the Fit-to-Print workshop for Holmes Inc. #3, which doesn't end until mid-August, but that's not a class per se) and students have been asking when and where I'll be teaching next.

NO TIME TO TALK!! I've got deadlines, I've got classes...I've got kids and a wife too but I'm too busy for them. MUST. GET. WORK. DONE.

My new set of classes will begin next Monday January 16. I still have four spaces left in my WRITING FOR COMICS LEVEL ONE class. There's a limit of 15 for this class as I like to be able to hear from each student when we do a writing exercise; feedback from me and the other students is an important part of this class. (for anyone who has taken this class before and is interested in a re-take to be followed by Level Two in the next session; TCW director Sean Menard is offering a 50% off deal for Level One. Perhaps everyone heard my plea/complaint? My INKING FOR COMICS has had an influx of enrollment, but there are still some spaces available for interested students. All you need to bring are your own inking tools (I'll be supplying some as well) and enthusiasm; different skills levels from none to lots are completely welcome.

I had a great time with Wednesday night's SNEAK PEEK workshop FIGURE DRAWING FOR THE COMIC BOOK ARTIST; looking forward to running this class for seven weeks! The full 'official' class will begin Wednesday January 25 (a week's delay to make room for Wednesday's Industry Night premiere of Ramón Pérez's TALE OF SAND), and still has spaces available. This class will have a limited enrolment as well, as I want to make sure that all students are able to have equal sight of the model for whatever it is that I'm teaching.
