The Art of Dissuasion
I never said or implied any of those things [.]
The book of my enemy has been remaindered And I rejoice. It has gone with bowed head like a defeated legion Beneath the yoke. What avail him now his awards and prizes, The praise expended upon his meticulous technique, His individual new voice? Knocked into the middle of next week His brainchild now consorts with the bad buys The sinker, clinkers, dogs and dregs, The Edsels of the world of moveable type, The bummers that no amount of hype could shift, The unbudgeable turkeys.
Clive James
A Clique of Bodges
The Ombudsman: Ed Hawkins has done a provisional update of IPCC AR5 WG1 Figure 11.12 [...]
The Auditor: [M]y understanding is that this diagram is nothing more than a manual bodge. Is it your position that it is something other than a manual bodge?
The Ombudsman: [W]ell, itâs not based on new GCM runs if thatâs what you mean by âmanualâ. But I certainly wouldnât describe it as a âbodgeâ â itâs improving the estimate in the light of new information.
The Auditor: I use âbodgeâ here in a sense familiar to CA readers from âBriffaâs bodgeâ and believe that the term applies exactly.
Wiktionary, under "bodge": To do a clumsy or inelegant job, usually as a temporary repair; patch up; repair, mend
Urban Dictionary: A quick and dirty job, something done very hastily. Make it look good for the next day or two and if it falls down after that, itâs alright.
Question: How is the Ombudsman supposed to know about the Auditor's meaning of "bodge," and what would not be a bodge?
Note: Ed Hawkins tried to comment on CA. His comments never appeared.

Parrhesian Parody
Even in a parody of parrhesia or A lukewarm comedy of menace Two wrongs should not make one right.
Data
[**Larry Thiel's demands read like poetry.**] By the way. You still havenât shown anyone, one shred of data. You showed me a link to some graphs and tables that were made as a result of the data. And thatâs fine. But youâre not showing anyone the data that was collected to make those graphs and tables. And thatâs what we need to see. Thatâs where the lies and the manipulations took place. As mcintyre has well shown you. Data. Actual data. Not a table. Not a graph. The data that was used to make the graph. The data that was used to make the table. Thatâs data.
