Macabre Productions Presents: A Horror Comedy Masterpost
Because horror doesn’t always have to be scary. Some are very dark, and some are just ridiculous and campy, and not all are strictly "horror". Take your pick.
Hansel and Gretel Get Baked [Trailer] [Movie] Synopsis: A brother and sister battle a witch who lures teenagers into her suburban home with her special blend of marijuana where she then proceeds to kill and eat them to maintain her youth and beauty. This is a perfect blend of horror in comedy in my opinion: hilarious but also gruesome. It’s a fun, creative twist on the good old Brothers Grimm tale.
Zombieland [Trailer] [Movie] Synopsis: A shy student trying to reach his family in Ohio, a gun-toting tough guy trying to find the Last Twinkie, and a pair of sisters trying to get to an amusement park join forces to travel across a zombie-filled America.
Stitches [Trailer] [Movie] Synopsis: A clown comes back from the dead to haunt those who took his life during a fatal party mishap. Uhhh. It’s a weird one. American Psycho [Trailer] [Movie] Synopsis: A wealthy New York investment banking executive hides his alternate psychopathic ego from his co-workers and friends as he escalates deeper into his illogical, gratuitous fantasies. This is one of my ultimate favorites. It’s one that I think you need to watch more than once because the first time you’re like “what the hell am I watching” but then you watch it again and you’re laughing your ass off.
Buffy The Vampire Slayer [Trailer] [Movie] Synopsis: A flighty teenage girl learns that she is her generation’s destined battler of vampires.
Beetlejuice [Trailer] [Movie] Synopsis: A couple of recently deceased ghosts contract the services of a “bio-exorcist” in order to remove the obnoxious new owners of their house.
Evil Bong [Trailer] [Movie] Synopsis: Straight-laced nerd Alistair moves into a college dorm with hardcore marijuana users Brett, Larnell, and Bachman. Larnell orders an old giant bong that proves to have strange magical powers. When smoked said bong sends a person to a bizarre drugged-out alternate realm from which there is no easy escape. In case you couldn’t already tell….this is extremely campy. So much so that you should probably be under the influence while you watch it.
Night Of The Demons (2009) [Trailer] [Movie] Synopsis: A group of kids go to a Halloween party, only to have to face down a group of demons. Note: This is another one of my favorites on the list.
Bride Of Chucky [Trailer] [Movie] Synopsis: Chucky hooks up with another murderous doll, the bridal gown-clad Tiffany, for a Route 66 murder spree with their unwitting hosts, two eloping high-school graduates. This one and it’s sequel (below) are a couple more of my favorite horror comedies. I used to be absolutely terrified of Chucky as a kid, but then I saw this one and watched it about a million times in a row. Bam, fears resolved. Seed of Chucky [Trailer] [Movie] Synopsis: Glen, the orphan doll offspring of the irrepressible devilish-doll-come-to-life Chucky and his equally twisted bride Tiffany heads for Hollywood where he brings his bloodthirsty parents back from the dead. The Addams Family [Trailer] [Movie] Synopsis: Con artists plan to fleece the eccentric family using an accomplice who claims to be their long lost Uncle Fester. Jennifer’s Body [Trailer] [Movie] Synopsis: A newly possessed high school cheerleader turns into a succubus who specializes in killing her male classmates. Can her best friend put an end to the horror? Yet another favorite. Megan Fox eating boys and Adam Brody in a devil worshiping boy band, what’s not to love about that?
Gremlins [Trailer] [Movie] Synopsis: A boy inadvertantly breaks 3 important rules concerning his new pet and unleashes a horde of malevolently mischievous monsters on a small town.
Dark Shadows [Trailer] [Movie] Synopsis: An imprisoned vampire, Barnabas Collins, is set free and returns to his ancestral home, where his dysfunctional descendants are in need of his protection.
The Cabin In The Woods [Trailer] [Movie] Synopsis: Five friends go for a break at a remote cabin in the woods, where they get more than they bargained for. Together, they must discover the truth behind the cabin in the woods. Note: One of my favorites on the list. It you’re a true horror fan you have to watch this.Â
Tucker and Dale VS Evil [Trailer] [Movie] Synopsis: Tucker & Dale are on vacation at their dilapidated mountain cabin when they are attacked by a group of preppy college kids. I actually didn’t really like this one that much but I know a lot of people do so it made the list anyways.Â
Ginger Snaps [Trailer] [Movie] Synopsis: Two death-obsessed sisters, outcasts in their suburban neighborhood, must deal with the tragic consequences when one of them is bitten by a deadly werewolf.
Heathers [Trailer] [Movie] Veronica hates the girls in her popular clique. Enter mysterious newcomer J.D., who offers her the perfect solution to end their social tyranny. Okay, this one isn't exactly "horror" but it involves murder so I'm including it because I love it and it's dark and hilarious.Â
