Me telling a few jokes at The Comedy Connection in Portland, Maine! It's pretty washed out but the audio should be fine. Not too shabby I don't think?

Thursday 8/11/11
Last night was the Summer Showdown contest at the Comedy Connection. I didn't win, but I got to say I was up against some very good, and seasoned, comics. I thought I did pretty well though all things considered. I got some good laughs and delivered my jokes well.
The winner was selected by audience vote, and unfortunately I was only able to get 3 friends to show up to support me. Getting people to come out and see me is easily the hardest part of this job. Writing jokes, getting on stage, and being the spotlight is easier than actually getting people to show up.
Big thanks to Kathy, Jeff, and Dave for coming out for me. I had fun. And contests really aren't about winning as much as they are for learning, meeting people, and showcasing yourself to potential fans and bookers. So all-in-all I think it was a good night.

Tonight I have another contest - the RI Comic Throwdown in Newport, RI. This is a funny story. The reason I originally was excited for this contest was that they separate the comics by experience. I entered in the novice division. But a few weeks ago during the first round, I competed at a bar in Newport. But the judges had me in the wrong category. They mistakenly had me in the amateur division. So I lost. But the contest organizer felt bad about the mess up. So when he had a no-show later in the novice division, he let me fill it and come to the semi-finals. And tonight is the semi-finals. I'll be going up against another novice comedian. I don't know who he is. But if I beat him I get to go to the finals next week. The contest will be judged by 3 people involved in entertainment. And it takes place at the Newport Blues Cafe.
