We got some new girls earlier in the week. Did we need them? No. But I'm not one to let that stop me lol. I bought them without even seeing them first. Not something I usually do, but with these I'm glad I didn't. I knew they had come from a commercial enterprise, but hadn't really thought too much about what sort. It was pretty obvious once we got them home that they're ex-battery hens. They've been de-beaked, don't know how to perch and some aren't really sure what nest boxes are for, and veggie scraps... 'Do we eat those?!?'. So, a bit rough around the edges at the moment, but I'm sure with a little tlc and a new life free ranging and they'll come good. They're favourite things since they've been here are sun bathing and dust baths. 10 of them will stay here with me and 10 will go to some colleagues of mine. (Yes, I officially have a lot of chooks now!!)
