This is Uptown Chic, a Zephyr Breeze/Rarity next-gen by Sinamuna.

I honestly couldn’t tell that the dad was supposed to be Zephyr Breeze. I straight-up thought this was a RariJack shipping pony.

ANYWAY

This is yet another case of just color-picking and not actually putting forth any effort into making a well-designed shipping foal. The only true detail put in here is the shape of the mane and tail, which I can actually appreciate here. That part of this looks absolutely great.

But the purple and yellow together don’t look so good. The eyes are literally Zephyr Breeze’s coat color, the yellow is his mane/tail (not even altered), and the purple gradient and body color are pure Rarity.

This is the palette I got from blending Rarity and Zephyr together. I’ll admit that I’m not really fond of any of the mane colors, but for this shipping foal, I would lean towards Zephyr’s end of the spectrum. The blueish-purple at the top there is the eye color, and eye colors usually work pretty well.

But in going through Sinamuna’s gallery, I noticed that there are literally a shitton of shipping designs that are just color-picking and it really bothers me. Like, a lot.

This is Triskie Twinkle, originally designed by Sinamuna but now belongs to Shiiazu.

I’m going to go ahead and post this comment that I found on the deviation because I agree with literally everything this user has said:

“I just wanna point out first before anything else that she looks WAY too much like Trixie up to the point where it kind of looks like a recolor. Maybe look up some unique designs for her mane and tail to have it be different from her parents while still keeping the style of them. As for the colors, they are definitely very nice (this is where I disagree), but, again, maybe use a color palette that could really make her stand out in her family. As for her name, it also is a bit too close to Trixie’s name. Maybe something that sounds a bit more cool or interesting instead?”

I want to give a HUGE fucking thank you to the user that made that comment. Because Sinamuna needs to read it too and apply it to her own characters. But that’s beside the point.

“Triskie Twinkle” sounds like a name a small child would give their first pony. I personally wouldn’t be able to give any name suggestions because I’m shit at naming things, but perhaps I would dive into some magical terms and find something coherent that both makes sense and matches the design.

And yes, she does indeed look like a Trixie recolor. What happened to Starlight’s curled mane? Add some of that in there and we’d have a way better start.

Like I did in the last post, I came up with a color palette that blends both parents’ colors together and they’re not as uh, in-your-face purple as what I feel this horse to be.

FSo I figured we’d kick off the blog with someone that’s usually a target of bad OC blogs. iPandacakes

For the most-part, all I’ve ever taken the time to notice were the blatant color-picking from the parents (and the poor mixing of colors) and the somewhat questionable backgrounds for some of her OCs 

I did spend some time reading this character’s background before I did everything and there’s some solid plotwork there, but on this blog I’m going to focus purely on looks.

The main beef that I have with this horse is that it’s blatant color-picking from the parents. 99% of good shipping foals have a mixture of the parents’ palettes, leaning towards one parent or the other if the colors don’t work as a 100% blend.

However, for Big Mac and Cheerilee, the colors work surprisingly well together. 

This is the color palette that I got when I blended Big Mac and Cheerilee’s colors. And as it turns out, they work well together.

The only other thing I really have to say about this OC is that the tail looks like it could use a little more shape to it than just the big round end.
