As if having a professional hockey player boyfriend wasn’t stressful enough, the fans sometime weren’t the nicest to you. A majority of the time the fans were really nice and would comment really nice things on Gabe’s instagram, when he posted pictures with you.
But occasionally you would get those comments that were just absolutely utterly disgusting.
That situation is where you found yourself right in this moment.
You were sitting on the couch and scrolling through your instagram, when your got a dm. The dm was from someone who you were not following, so you went into your pending dm’s to find a load of dms you have not yet accepted. You silently scanned over them and bite your lip as tears welled up in your eyes. Most of the dm’s read things like.
“Gabe deserves better.” “ You are only with him for the money.” “Gold digger.” “Gabe should be with me not you!”
You set your phone down on the coffee table, it holding so many memories as it was the first piece of furniture you and Gabe bought when you moved in together. You curled up on the couch and began to cry. How could people be so mean, when they didn’t even know you as a person. You cried so much that at this point you were hiccuping and letting out broken sobs.
You didn’t know how long you stayed on the couch in that position till you heard keys jingling in the door and Gabe came walking in your shared apartment.
“Love, I’m home. Since I’m kinda beat I was thinking that for dinner we cou-”
He stopped in the doorway that lead to the living room when he saw you. You looked over at him for a split second then returned to looking back at the table. You saw him walking over to you from the corner of your eye. He walked in front of your face and crouched down in front of you.
“Amelia, baby what happened today?” He softly grabbed your face in his hands.
You sniffled and sat up cross legged. You quietly grabbed your phone from the coffee table and handed it to him. He took it and unlocked it, he quietly read over the dms and sighed lightly.
“ Lia.” you smiled softly at his nickname for you.
“These messages are absolute bullshit. I do deserve better, and better is you. I know you aren’t in it for the money.” He sat on the couch and scooped you into his lap like a child.
“Remember when I was a bit skeptical because I thought you were just another girl who wanted to check date a pro athlete off her bucket list. You were the one who reassured me that you were in it for the commitment. Whether I had money or not.” He wiped a tear from your face with the pad of his thumb.
“Amelia, I don’t believe any of this shit these puck bunnies write. Neither should you, you are gorgeous and I love you.” He kissed the top of your head. You looked up at him and wiped your face.
“I’m sorry, I know I shouldn’t let it get to me but sometimes it does.”
“I know my love, but just try to brush it off, people judge what they can’t understand.”
You nodded and cuddled into his chest. “Can we watch Netflix?”
He nods, and picks up the control to search through Netflix; and for the rest of the night you two sit there in each other's arms watching Netflix while Gabe strokes your hair and whispers Swedish sweet nothings in your ear every once in a while.
