Their family really, truly can’t catch a fucking break and that much is made evident when ATF decide to show up during the middle of Sunday dinner and haul Lettie off in handcuffs. The whole thing is almost a blur, a crying and confused Benny having been handed off to Reina immediately while Rowan’s protective streak zeroed in on Lettie and she followed them out to the car trying to get answers. But, of course, Lettie is an adult and Rowan isn’t her mother, so they don’t have to tell her anything. Not that that stops her and Andy from showing up at the police station only minutes after ATF, waiting impatiently for them to finish processing her all while waving a checkbook in the receptionists face. A few hours later it turns out that it pays to be the sheriff’s daughter and Rowan’s finds herself being lead to Lettie’s holding cell by her father who reminds her he is breaking all kinds of rules right now. She gives his hand a squeeze, thanking him when he leaves to give them a little privacy and Rowan immediately begins checking Lettie over for any signs of injury. The arrest itself hadn’t looked particularly rough, but she saw Andy beat to hell at visitation thanks to CO’s far too many times to trust that nothing had happened behind closed doors.
A soft sigh leaves her lips and she runs a hand through her hair. “They’re not giving us any information on bail for you yet, but the second they do we’re going to have you out of here” she admits, knowing it’s better to just tell Lettie outright how it is rather than try and hide anything from her. Things aren’t exactly looking good right now, but at the very least she can guarantee Lettie that she isn’t in this alone, and that they aren’t going to leave her to figure this out on her own --- no matter how things are legally or biologically, Lettie’s their kid and they’re going to make sure she’s taken care of. Bail money, good lawyers, whatever it is they’ll make it work. “Are you okay?” It feels like a stupid thing to ask because nothing about this situation is okay and she’s pretty sure Lettie is just going to say ‘yes’ anyway, but it’s a start.
