thinking about guard dog characters and attack dog characters. the different ways to protect your people. characters who take the defensive versus the ones who never let it get to that. ones who, when someone bares their teeth, will bare their teeth in return, and ones who need only see the glint of teeth before tearing them limb from limb. it's the difference between "i would die for you" and "i would kill for you." characters who are ready to compromise their life or their morals, who have already made that sacrifice in their mind, who have fangs and claws and are always ready to use them, because ultimately these characters are fundamentally the same: they will protect you, and they will do anything.
Man. If I had a nickel for every time Zac Oyama and Lou Wilson had to rp a breakup-coded fight between their “platonic besties” characters because Zac’s character was experiencing a hard personal internal struggle and decided to leave a group/cause that he wasn’t actually invested in and mostly just joined because Lou’s character was passionate about it and Lou’s character was canonically very charismatic and good at garnering followers/admirers but Zac’s character was one of his only true friends that he fully trusted and was loyal to and Lou’s character was really hurt when Zac’s character left, less by the actual action of leaving and more by the implication that he didn’t care about Lou’s character enough to stay I’d have two nickels. Which isn’t a lot but it’s fucking RUDE that it’s happened twice.
For all my yearners out there.

how badly did you handle being dumped on a scale from owen carvour (faked his death, betrayed his country, killed over a thousand people, tortured his ex in disguise, tried to launch a worldwide surveillance system during the lavender scare despite being gay) to delissandro katzon (used the last gift he ever got from his ex, a knife, to mutilate himself to never be able to let go of the memories, appointed a younger girl he knew was in love with him in the position in his court that he invented for his ex, started a war)
Not to randomly ravening war post but I forgot that Deli is the one who initially sees the banana man and looks at Colin to go “no survivors” and as a divorced sandwich shipper OOOOOOOOOOOO fuck is that fucking wild— that moment that is so the source of Colin’s big character shift in the series still ties directly back to this man he devoted himself to who was already too far gone. Fuck. Cue The Crane Wives Never Love an Anchor— shits fucked up for real for real.
Deli choosing the path of self destruction by letting Colin run and Colin choosing potential death to chase Deli and not let it happen OUGH they make me sick.
And after everything that happened they separated and never saw each other again, it was never meant to be.
