Raine finished plugging wires into the back of the television and setting up the DVD player. One modern convenience she was glad to access here was the ability to watch movies right from the comfort of home. Colette surely agreed, since Sylvarant had little at all in terms of technology and entertainment. The closest they ever got to a movie there was yearly religious plays that Iselia’s schoolhouse performed. Raine could tell it was exciting for the girl to finally be able to watch something that wasn’t so rigid and traditional.
Colette was in charge of the snacks by request. Luckily her workplace always had more than enough to spare after a day and it was a shame to let it all go to waste (the professor had since regularly reaped these benefits). Raine was in charge of getting the movies, which were all bargain bin romance films she picked out on a whim while in a pawn shop in Techno Solar. Maybe she was just unconsciously feeling wistful. She could’ve used some escapism.
It was dark in the Whisperwood home. They both wore their pajamas--Raine in a bathrobe, oversized shirt and a pair of pants that had fossil patterns printed all over. They had both been busy with their own lives and had less of a chance to meet recently. Colette sat on the couch while Raine sat on the carpet closer to the tech, fanning out three DVD cases for the girl to choose from.
“I’m glad we could make this happen. I know it can’t be helped. It’s my job as your teacher to watch you grow and find your own way. But...I do miss you sometimes, dear.”
