While we still classify the nautiloids and coleoids together as cephalopods, they diverged a very long time ago (400-500 million years ago!), so it’s no wonder that modern coleoids have evolved so many novel characteristics. Nautiloids, on the other hand, appear to have changed very little in that time, although since their shells are generally the only part that fossilises, we cannot know for sure what ancient nautiloids were like compared to their modern counterparts.

11- Humboldt Squid Humboldt squid can shift color between red and white, and have been known to communicate w each other using different patterns.

 These octopi are one of the most intelligent species and are well-known for their ability to camouflage into their environments

They were named for their large fins that resemble Dumbo's ears!

The blanket octopus currently holds the record for largest difference in size between males and females of the same species: females (pictured) can grow to about the size of a person, while males stay only a couple of centimeters long.

The color ‘sepia’ originally came from sepia ink, which is harvested from cuttlefish in the Sepia genus

Bobtail squid have a light organ inside their mantle that is filled with bioluminescent bacteria. The squid feed these bacteria, which in turn mimic the light hitting the squid in order to hide its silhouette from predators.
