There was something about this family that made his skin crawl. Maybe it was because they fed off of animals, and he couldn’t bear the thought of that. But he’d been spending most of his days perched in trees, watching everyone moving around him. Every once in a while, he’d start a conversation with one of the others, but he struggled to connect with them on a meaningful level. “I do not understand your way of life,” he said after a moment of consideration, when his gaze landed on the newborn, his head cocking to the side. “It confuses me.”
