#cojoba

COJOBA is a hardcore punk band that began in 1995 in Puerto Rico. Now based in NYC and after a few lineup changes, Cojoba is  Taína (vocals), Javier (guitar), Moe (bass),  and Ray (drums). They have a new CD out that you can buy called “Crisis por Siempre”! They will be playing this year’s C.L.I.T. FEST on SATURDAY NIGHT, JULY 14TH.

Yesterday I went to the last day of Clitfest that was held in Washington D.C. at the Black Cat. A girl I knew from Murfreesboro, TN, Shannon Roche, who’s been living out here on the east coast, and I think a few other people were organizers for this event. I wasn’t totally sure what to expect and only knew a few things about it and had looked up the bands that were going to play beforehand. There were totally good vibes there and I ended up loving that I went to it. The bands that I was there to witness were pretty rad. The ones I heard were Tit Fit, Cojoba, and Lechuza…unfortunately I missed several bands because I went to get food and had to get back to Bmore [bla bla bla].

I love how this wasn’t just an event to play music and bring crowds in for a person’s monetary profit; to me personally, it was an event that supported people who were present in the crowd and represented those who couldn’t be there. I know that’s super broad and there were very specific things addressed by this event and group, but I cannot explain what it meant to others. When I was there and spoke to my friend, Mel, I realized how much in common I had with other women and the things we have went through, and it’s not just me being weird because other men and women play it off as being weird or things that shouldn’t be publicly addressed.
