Liking words
Neurocognitive and computational evidence supports this account by showing that pleasant words take avantage of the primary left amygdala-mediated enhanced perceptual processing and than they provide more denser semantic long-terms associations than neutral or negative words”
Self-disenfranchisement through cognitive fluency.
We lose track of who we are when we fall into the trap of cognitive fluency. We live in a society of social media followers. We are a gullible society that is gifted with so much information but rather scarce wisdom. The search for truth and fact has been discarded because of the rat race in our society. If it is tasking and inconvenient it’s probably false.
In January 2000 a series of chain emails began reporting that imported bananas where infecting people with “necrotizing fasciitis”. The threat was pure nonsense but by months end the CDC had to issue a statement decrying the rumour. That did not help instead it fueled the rumour. Eventually the rumour died down but this incident shaded light on the cracks in our rational thinking.
The right to vote is a right to choose how and who should govern me but I also vote in my everyday life in the sense that my mind is my “government” and whatever comes at the borders of my mind should be party to questions to test for truth.
In the words of John F. Kennedy “No matter how big the lie is, repeat it often enough and the masses will regard it as truth.”
