4. How much do you trust the reader?

Depends on the reader! I have a core of very talented, very astute writer friends who I trust to pick up what I’m putting down. I write for those people, FYI. I get plenty of comments asking me questions about a story that are clearly answered in the text itself. I am not writing for those people. I recognise that everyone has different abilities, preferences, skills and priorities when reading fic, so I write for the like-minded folks and I hope that less intense readers can still get something out of my stories, too. Since most of them are porn, I would imagine they do.

Fundamentally, I try to trust readers to read for their own enjoyment and recognise when one of my stories is not for them. I believe in the power of the backspace key!

5. Have you ever written anything you would’ve backclicked if it’d been written by anyone else?

I don’t think so. A couple of my earlier, short gen pieces I might have skimmed and idly given a duty-kudos to.

I love the idea of a slack channel!

While it’s GREAT to squee all over each other’s contributions once an exchange has its big reveal, I’d be really down for swapping ideas DURING THE CREATION PROGRESS. For me this is especially true for art, because I find it harder there to go back and make changes later.

The only problem is that fandom exchanges are usually built on the premise that no one (and especially not your giftee) is supposed to see their gift before it’s all done. Any ideas how we could work around this?

So... my thought was that maybe the prompts could be anon, and even taken from fandom at large (sort of like the way prompts work on a kinkmeme), which would then mean that no one knows who the prompt is actually from.

But that doesn’t address the problem where all the fics would be from someone else in the group.   I’m personally fine with seeing a wip of an art piece that’s intended for me, but ... I’m probably in the minority?

I guess when I really boil down to it, I want:

a) prompts that I can pick and choose from

b) a slack channel for writers/artists

c) a schedule so that the people in said slack channel are all working towards the same deadlines.

HERE FOR IT!   Even though you might es well call it the “Roll on the floor in pain and face your insecurities as a creator”-exchange, bc I don’t know a single person that writes and draws who isn’t super insecure about at least one of their skills. XD

@coffeestainanalyst LOL too true ... what’s that line about how being an artist is having massive insecurities while simultaneously having a massive ego (and thus wanting to share your art but at the same time, hide in a hole)?  So guess it’s like, DOUBLE that. i don't have the answer, but do you mind i reblod this? i don't consider myself a fic writer cause english is not my first language, but i do write ficlet for my art sometimes so i dunno

Also: um, if you write ficlet for your art sometimes, you are TOTES a fic writer.   And there are a lot of “English isn’t my native language” ficcers in fandom!   We’re usually just better at hiding it.   ::gently sweeps my subject/verb agreement issues under the rug::  ::drapes a blanket over my inability to recall simple idioms::

7. One-shots or longfic?

Depends on my mood, but almost always longfic (I assume this is about reading, although frankly the answer is the same for writing, so.) I don’t read a *ton* of fanfiction anymore, mostly because I don’t have time, so a lot of my big reading sprees take place while traveling, usually flying somewhere, so the longer the better!

12. What turns you away the most from a fic?

Really obscenely out-there OOC-ness that can’t be explained by the setting of the fic. I’m also pretty immediately turned off by characters acting childishly. (Particularly Bucky, since that’s a problem the fandom has.) These are grown men who have seen war; there’s a difference between being play-whiny and wanting to watch cartoons in your jim-jams and just acting like a bitchy little kid.

I find unending angst and pain exhausting to read, but I feel like that’s such a personal preference, it’s not like it’s the sign of a badly-written fic, or anything.

44. How fluffy is too fluffy?

There’s obvious dread of professional phone calls, and for me, family calls with the exception of my son (and friends who want to get a little more than tipsy while watching Cap movies *cough*). 

And did anyone else go through that young teen phone stage where if neither person had a thing left to say you basically ended up breathing on the phone for a long period of time until making an excuse to hang up? “My mom wants me to walk the dog, or something.”

Okay, let’s see:

- scenic walks when the weather is nice, especially in the evening

- tfw you slip into bed and curl between clean, cool sheets

- when fandom friends send filthysadwrong headcanons (also fic and fanart links) 

- playing video games and watching movies with my son
