Does anyone actually place stock in serendipity?
This is the issue with being so well-read, Rose thought to herself wryly, eyeing the book in front of her. She'd realized, upon glancing over the syllabus, that she knew half of the assigned readings well enough that they bored her but not well enough to dicuss them at the level the professor expected--thus her dilemma. She could probably recall enough to get by and bullshit the rest, but...she sighed and sat back, taking a sip from her au lait and cracking the book open. Might as well do this right.
She was thoroughly disinterested before she made it halfway into the first chapter, which is why she looked up when the cafe door opened. Strange, not many people knew the place, as it hadn't been open long, and it was too late in the afternoon for the few people who wandered in around lunch...
A pair of young women entered, chatting quietly. One was vaguely familiar in a I've-seen-you-around-town sort of way, dark haired and bright eyed with a bold, demanding presence. Rose put her curiosity about where she'd seen her before to the back of her mind to examine the other newcomer, and she--oh sweet jesus on a suitably hilarious vehicle is she ever pretty.
