 Â
Lucy was laughing at something Faith was saying as the girl explained how she had broken her arm in two places. It probably shouldnât have been funny but since the short freckled face girl was laughing Lucy couldnât help but laugh along.
From across the room, Jason couldn't help but smile at the sound.
âShe has a nice laugh,â Jennifer said glancing from Jason to the pretty brunette he was watching. âDonât you think?â
âHuh? Yea⌠donât start Jen.â Jason said rolling his eyes trying to hide the smile that was creeping across his face as the blue eyed girl started poking his side.
âStopâ he chuckled pushing her hand away before walking over to where Lucy and Faith were talking.
âWhat was that about?â Dick asked coming up behind Jennifer who just smiled leaning against the table she had Jason had been standing by.
 âDonât worry about it, Grayson.â
 âNow Iâm worried.â
The truth was Jason loved Lucyâs laugh. He loved the way it would bubble up inside her and seemed to spill around her like some fizzy drink. All sparkling and happy tickling you as you tried to take a sip.
He loved the way her beautiful golden eyes would light up sparkling like a precious metal. Molten like fire sparking inside him igniting feelings he never thought he could have for someone.
Sure he had been attracted to women before. Many women to be in fact. But none has invoked the feelings Lucy did in him.  Â
It was the way she would look at him when he was talking. As if he was the only one in the room. Hanging to his every word as if it was the last thing she would hear. Stroking his ego with her attentiveness and pure concentration as she clung to every word.
He was addicted to her outlook on life. Her thoughts on the world and what she would say after every story he told. Always surprising him, always challenging him. Her outlook was so positive and bright countering his cynical one. He wanted to see the world through her eyes. See the beauty he saw.
Because the only beautiful thing in the world he could see was her.
An angel shining brightly in the darkness of evil. in the face of so much pain and embracing it with love.
A love he craved. Hoped for.
A love maybe someday he would deserve. He would be worthy of.
But until then he would just sit here and listen to her laugh.
