What happened to the group of bright college students who fell under the sway of a classmate’s father?
By following various breadcrumbs over at The Underground Bunker (Tony Ortega’s site), I came upon this article about coercive control & a particular malignant narcissist. The article mentions one of the victims finding a website that provided a bulleted list of the techniques that abusers seeking to establish authoritarian control over their victims use -- I’m betting that the website in question is Steve Hassan’s freedomofmind.com, which has some incredibly useful information regarding the techniques of coercive control & undue influence.
But what’s more important to me is that this particular case highlights that the kinds of control techniques that a lot of people might associate with organized authoritarian, high-control groups like Scientology or NXIVM, for example, are utilized by individual people with individual other people -- it doesn’t matter if you’re in a group, or a family, or a two-person relationship: it can happen.
