A Chirurgeon’s Notes on the Physical Differences of Estinein Varlineau After Removing Nidhogg’s Eyes

The Azure Dragoon has ever been an esteemed position within Ishgard. A title demanding of the body, mind, and soul of those who carry it. 

There are physical scars from the eye removal, originally thought fused to his armor only, it seemed the process had superheated the metal of the armor and burns sustained were substantial though fully healed upon the removal of his vambraces when chirurgeons were tasked with healing him after he was returned to the people of Ishgard. It is highly likely that the fusing with Nidhogg had healed these wounds with little regard for cosmetics.

Injuries to his neck and vocal cords were sustained from Sir Varlineau restraining himself during the final confrontation as explained by witnesses when inquiry where they came from were raised.

The Azure Dragoon also has other characteristics we typically see with one within the early stages of ingesting Dravanian blood. Sharper canines, and a few scaled patches of skin across the body. We will keep an eye on him in case a side effect is a permanent transformation. His eyes also seem to have taken upon an extra reflective feature to them. The color shift is more obvious within lower light, but not something we have seen before.

Lastly, while we originally considered the fact he was feverish fighting off some unknown infection, it seems that Sir Varlineau’s body temperature has increased, as well as his aetheric density overall has increased.

thane is seemingly comfortable with the idea of being a weapon when he meets shepard; he’s accepted this as an integral part to who he is and what makes him and pledges himself to shepard in the same way he might’ve pledged himself to the hanar under the compact. at the same time, he is desperate to fix the bond with his son and to keep kolyat from going down the path he followed to the point that he has to bank on entropy in order to rationalize what happens if shepard fails his loyalty mission and kolyat gets away.* 

Kore + Being Garlean + The Echo

As mentioned by Arenvald in Stormblood, being a Garlean with the Echo results in headaches.

For Kore these usually manifest as ocular headaches, or migraines with aura, a few hours after getting Echo Visions. Depending on the duration of the Echo Vision these headaches last anywhere from several hours to a day or two.

For extreme uses of the Echo (see Praetorium/fighting Lahabrea and other such instances within the MSQ) it leaves her bed ridden upwards of a week at minimum until she's even partially recovered.

Kore can also suffer from the effects of aether sickness after extended/prolonged/repeated use of the Echo within a short duration. Though after the events of the Shadowbringers MSQ the effects of this are significantly lessened.

Given that Kore obtained the blessing of light/the Echo early in her childhood she was often seen as fragile child by other adults outside of her immediate family who simply didn't know why she was sick frequently. She was often expected by he parents to act completely normal after such instances and attend various social functions while suffering the after effects of having a vision.

i would definitely have to say that my favorite moment in his canon is the developmental arch between ME1 and ME3?? mostly because it’s just so fascinating, and i really dig that sort of growth where characters might be forced to acknowledge that what they thought they knew isn’t always true. this definitely shines through for kaidan when he is hit with the fact that:

shepard is alive

shepard is alive and didn’t tell him (esp. if he and shepard were close)

shepard is working with cerberus

he just doesn’t know how to handle that at all, at first. he’s already dealing with the colony issues and people missing – feeling like he’s inadequate, like he wasn’t cut out for the job he’d been doing since shepard’s death, feeling like he was worthless. (i.e. “out of all the people that got taken, they left you behind?”) that’s definitely a huge blow to his confidence – because not only did he not manage to save those that were in a way depending on him, he knows that he can’t get them back. it makes him look at the fact that his idealism and naivete isn’t exactly gonna be able to last much longer, even if it dwindles almost entirely by the end of the first game.

he prefers partners that can hold their own and kick ass, but also have a softer side. (corny, but, y’know, that’s kinda kaidan’s whole shtick.) he doesn’t have particular preference towards body type, but somebody that can keep up with him in the battlefield and at home is always good. he likes light eyes and dark hair on a partner, for sure. someone who isn’t too harsh in the right kind of situations is also a bonus. they have to like animals, because he was raised with them & when he’s planet-side, they almost seem to flock towards him.
