This is going to be quite a long-ish post. A tldr , if you will. I know... I’m sorry I’m having you read, but it’s not all that bad as it seem, AND YOU’LL DEFINITELY WILL GET SOMETHING OUT OF IT! I know I did.
All the tips I provide comes from the book “Unlimited Memory” by Grandmaster Kevin Horsely.
Without further ado, here’s 3 major tips to improving your memory:
(p.s. at the end, I’ve added the actual notes I took while reading. The notes contain some examples and additional notes so feel free to reference them as well 😊)
——
1. 𝘪𝘮𝘢𝘨𝘪𝘯𝘦 / 𝘱𝘪𝘤𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘪𝘯𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘮𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘳𝘺𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘰 𝘳𝘦𝘵𝘢𝘪𝘯 ☁️
Your brain likes to retain visual information. Why do you think children love looking at the pictures rather than the sentences of a picture book? It’s because we’re naturally drawn to visual images.
To help new information stick, try to visualize in your mind what the information is saying. If the information is more abstract take the key words and definitions and try to find what the visuals could be.
For example, in computer science, computers have a type of memory called the stack. The memories stored in stack can only be accessed from the top and not from the bottom. Let’s visually imagine a ‘stack’ of plates. Each plate represents a memory. What happens if you try to pull a plate from the bottom of the stack? The plates above it are probably going to fall and crash. Therefore, you can only get the plates from the top. Congratulations! You’ve basically learned what stack memory is :,)
——
2. 𝘶𝘴𝘦 𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘢𝘭𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘥𝘺 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸 (𝘤𝘢𝘳 𝘮𝘦𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘥) ☁️
Need to memorize a group of information? This method utilizes information you already know to create a foundation for new information you need to know. In other words (or more like equation):
Long Term Memory + Short Term Memory = Mid Term Memory
In general, link the new information to stuff that’s already ingrained to you. ALWAYS. People always find it harder in the later parts of their courses because they never fully understood the basics or linked to the basics. Don’t let the new information float around in your brain aimlessly. Bind it down to a foundation - the “something” you know.
——
3. 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘤𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘦, 𝘣𝘦 𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘥, 𝘣𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘦𝘷𝘦 𝘪𝘯 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘴𝘦𝘭𝘧 ☁️
Probably easier said than done. The first two tips won’t work if you don’t practice them. Concentration is key!
I know that some subjects are subjects you have to study because it’s required and is irrelevant to subjects you care about... or so you thought. Try to find the connection! There’s bound to be a hidden connection between the “boring” subject and the subject you are interested in.
The most important step is to believe in yourself! Don’t let your negativity actually fulfill your prophecy. Remember that if you believe your successes are limitless, your successes will definitely be limitless!

120218: Today’s ootd consists of boots, shorts and a green sweater. 😁
The last week wasn’t the best week. Had three exams in a day, and I’m not sure I did all that well. My bujo page got accidentally deleted also so my progress proof was lost... thank goodness I had this page backed up, but unfortunately it was no use as it was already closing to the end of the week. Time to rest up and power through the rest of the semester.
Happy December! xx
111718: Almost Thanksgiving break! Not going to lie, this semester has been pretty stressful which lead to me to be unmotivated which then snowballed into procrastination... Trying to pick myself up through the little things that make me happy like wearing cute outfits and such! I’ve started picking up a bullet journal again recently and I’m proud to say it’s paperless. Honestly, it has been way easier doing it digitally cause no more cutting, gluing, and taping things down!
