Group dynamics drives my curiosity when working with people. Projections, expectations and roles can hold back groups even with the right intentions and skills. I have seen this play out most strongly in two setting. The first is in interagency settings where numerous professionals gather to support a person through a number of professional lens. The pressure and the stakes are often high because it involves a person with needs and as in all group dynamics can get caught in expectations and projections instead. The second is in leadership development where leaders and followers lose connection because the focus is shifted from the purpose of the relationship to expectations and projections that aren'tbeing met. The start to a very long weekend, celebrating 1 year married and filled to my boots in gratitude. It is easy to look at the sh*t show this year has been and not just globally but personally too and while thats very true, I don't want to dwell in those moments. I want to dwell in the kindness of people, the simple moments, the arguments that led to deeper understanding of eachother and the moments of joy. It all counts and I want to dwell on the moments that expand me. Sometimes people say I'm optimistic as if it's a curse. Life can be so hard and so sh*t sometimes that without that focus or hope it would be too easy to get lost in the ups and downs and loose perspective. Resilience isn't just getting on with things, it's how we choose to move forward after the thing. I wrote Self Care An Authentic Journey in the midst of a lot of personal development and unknown to myself professional maturing. Writing and publishing this book was one of the first moments that I realised I couldn't keep waiting to be picked by some unknown force, for the power of what I want to be outsourced, it was one of my first experiences of putting my hopes before my fears, especially professionally and choosing myself. I now make it a concious choice to keep choosing myself and my hopes, personally and professionally. Its been my greatest motivation over the years, just making the choice and stepping forward.
