Book Quotes 1.:
I wanted to share some quotes from the book I'm currently reading, for those of you who haven't read it.
I'm starting at a new school for adults in August, and even after years of therapy, I still sometimes doubt whether people can like me or find me likable.
I discovered How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie and already read the first 100 pages today.
I thought I'd share the most important takeaways with you, maybe someone can take something away from it.
Important: I didn't read the book in its original English version, but in my native language and I translated the quotes freely into English. So these aren't exact quotes — just my translations. The original quotes might sound a little different.
„When dealing with people, remember you are not dealing with creatures of logic, but with creatures of emotion, creatures bristling with prejudices and motivated by pride and vanity."
„I will speak ill of no man, and speak all the good I know of everybody."
„A great man shows his greatness by the way he treats the little man." „Instead of condemning people, let's try to understand them. Let's try to figure out why they do what they do. That's a lot more profitable and intriguing than criticism; and it breeds sympathy, tolerance, and kindness. To know all is to forgive all."
„The strongest human drive is the need to feel important." „I consider my ability to arouse enthusiasm among my people the greatest asset I possess. The way to develop the best that is in a person is by appreciation and encouragement. There is nothing else that kills the ambitions of a person as criticisms from superiors. I never criticize anyone. I believe in giving a person incentive to work. So I am anxious to praise but loath to find fault. If I like anything, I am hearty in my approbation and lavish in my praise." — Charles Schwab
„I shall pass this way but once. Any good therefore that I can do, or any kindness I can show to any human being, let me do it now. Let me not defer nor neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again."
„You can make more friends in two months by becoming interested in other people than you can in two years by trying to get other people interested in you."
„The person who is uninterested in their fellow human beings has the greatest difficulties in life and causes the greatest harm to others. It is from such people that all human failures spring."
Thank you, Dale Carnegie.
