The operator of Amazon's large French warehouses used tracking devices to monitor the activity and overall performance of employees.
A French regulator announced Tuesday it had fined the manager of Amazon’s large warehouses in France 32 million euros ($34.7 million) for excessive monitoring of its employees.
The French Data Protection Authority (CNIL) said Amazon France Logistique gave employees scanners in order to record workplace tasks such as removing items from shelves and packing. This data was then used to calculate the “quality, productivity and periods of inactivity of each employee.”
CNIL ruled it was “illegal to set up a system measuring work interruptions with such accuracy, potentially requiring employees to justify every break or interruption,” it said.
The system for monitoring employee activity was described as “excessively intrusive,” including the company’s policy of keeping data and statistical indicators on employees for 31 days was also described as “excessive,” even in light of the “high performance targets” at the business.
CNIL said Amazon France Logistique committed several breaches of the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), specifically around data minimization and lawful processing.

Full Name: Ace Lillian Summerly (Formerly Haley Lillian Summerly)
Species: Chital Deer
Gender: Male
Birthday: May 2nd
Age: 25
Height: 5'10"
Occupation: Clerk at Storybook Nook, a book store at Lorenzo's largest shopping center, Coastline Centre
Ace Summerly is an awkward though well-meaning deer hailing from the incredibly small and worn down town of Middlebury. All his life, he's had his eye on moving out into the city of his dreams, and early on into his adult years, the dream became a reality.
Now living in a cozy apartment in the populous city of Lorenzo, Ace is free to embrace his true self and begin the next chapter of his life... but it becomes quickly apparent that city life may take some getting used to for a small-town deer like himself.
(Facts under the cut!)
Some facts about Ace...
Ace is tremendously well-versed in the art of ping-pong. At a young age, he was taught how to play by one of his older cousins during a family get-together, and quickly became infamous for his panache plays. Years later, he still retains this skill, and will readily drop whatever he is doing just to play a round or two whenever he comes across a ping-pong table.
One of Ace's prime interests is all things astronomy. In high school, he was the top student in his astronomy class, and he particularly loves stargazing whenever possible, a hobby that was leagues easier back in Middlebury. As a result, Ace is a firm believer in horoscopes and checking his own is part of his morning routine.
Ace realized he was transgender sometime during seventh grade. It was a realization a long time coming, as growing up most of his interests were more masculine than they were feminine (I.E. playing video games, preferring action figures to dolls, etc.), and halfway through his time in middle school, something clicked, and he has been a proud member of the LGBTQ+ community since.
Ace's favorite food is a club sandwich. Back in Middlebury, his father worked at a small sandwich chain, and club sandwiches were something Ace ate just about every day. There may not be many things that he misses about his old hometown, but if one thing's for certain, club sandwiches are his ultimate comfort food.
Although he's professionally presented in terms of his outfit, Ace has been known to wear wacky, colorful socks much like these underneath his cuffed khakis. He has a small collection going and has enough to where he can wear a new pair every day for about two weeks straight.
One of Ace's guilty pleasures is karaoke. While others might disagree, Ace doesn't find his singing voice to be all that great, but rest assured, he does belt the lyrics to his favorite songs whilst on his morning commute in the safety of his own car. Perhaps one day he can work up the courage to try some actual karaoke in front of a live audience. Regrettably, however...
... Ace's biggest fear is public speaking. He can deal with being surrounded by crowds of people just fine, though when he actually has to address them is when it becomes an issue. This fear stems from his days in middle school and high school, where he would constantly trip up during presentations and be subject to ridicule from classmates.
His favorite season is autumn. While Ace does particularly savor warm, summer nights out under the stars, there's something just as comforting (If not more so) about autumn, whether that be the gorgeous color of the trees or having an excuse to wear a fashionable jacket.
Ace has a crush on somebody, but due to being something of an introvert, he refuses to elaborate any further on who said crush is. I wonder who it could be... 💜
Welcome to the official blog for @stardestroyer81's City Nights in Lorenzo series! Here, you will find all things having to do with this beloved series of mine and its many characters, from fact posts to stories and maybe even artwork here and there!
City Nights in Lorenzo is one of my several OC universes, and may just be one of if not my ultimate favorite due to the amount of worldbuilding and characters I've conceptualized for it. I had created City Nights way back in mid-2018 (The concept itself spans back to early 2018 and even went by a different name at that time!), and since then has seen numerous changes in both its cast and premise.
Ace Summerly, a twenty-five year old transmasculine deer, has lived his whole life in a very small and worn-out town named Middlebury. As a closeted transgender male, life in a town where everyone knows him by anything other than his preferred name and pronouns— his parents more than anyone else— is far from the life he wants to lead.
Ever since he first considered identifying as the opposite gender during his middle school years, Ace has personally vowed to move out from living with his parents as soon as financially possible to start life anew far from the town of Middlebury, and several part-time jobs later, is finally able to move out into the city of his dreams...
Lorenzo, California— the largest city in the states.
After meeting his new roommate online and thereby securing an apartment to call his new home, Ace wastes no time in packing his belongings and says goodbye to the drab life he once knew, excited as ever to finally embrace his true self in a brand new environment...
... though nothing could prepare him for the truth that, outside the ho-hum town of Middlebury, it's a wild world out there.
As briefly touched on in this post's introduction, many posts pertaining to this series are to be expected, including (But certainly not limited to)...
• In-depth fact posts for characters, locations, relationships and more!
• Short literary works spanning from one-shots to potentially a multi-part series or two!
• Artwork drawn by myself or others of the CNiL cast!
• And other miscellaneous posts!
I've also opened up my ask box to answer any questions you might have about the City Nights universe, or if you feel so inclined, you can also send in asks for a certain character— I will see to it that they'll write back to you as soon as they're able! ✨
• Ace Summerly
• Jacklyn "Jackie" Westfield
• Sam Marshall [Fact post coming soon!]
• Layla Warner [Fact post coming soon!]
• Molly Stevenson [Fact post coming soon!]
