(sorry for taking so incredibly long with this uwu)
"Woah, hold on a minute, you've never been ice skating?!" Kitty says in utter bewilderment.
"Uh, yeah. Never." James replies, sitting in a chair in his quarters.
Him, Kitty and Azviel had finished rewatching Frozen for the fifth (was it the fifth? They've lost count..) and were discussing how hard it must be to ice skate in heels. James let it slip that he's never ice skated.
"Never in your life? Not even once when you were a kid?"
James just shrugs in response, being overall confused about what the fuss is about.
"I may be questioning our relationship because of this, James.." Azviel interjects sarcastically. "Honestly, this could jeopardize everything."
James gives Azviel a joking glare, leaning over his chair to nudge her with the weakest punch ever conceived. Azviel simply takes a step out of the way and leans down to kiss the top of James's head. Kitty makes a fake puking gesture at the two. James laughs, and sits up.
"In all these years, Kitty, you never wondered if I've never ice skated?" James says.
"Oh yeah, sure, I'd just wander in to our dorm one day after class and say, 'hey James, I know you've got finals and all, but have you ever put on sharp blades on your feet and ran around on a giant circular ice cube?'" Kitty responds with an iconic snark.
"Alright, alright, snarky-pants!" James sighs as he throws his hands up in the air.
Laughing, Azviel grabs James' hand and pulls him to his feet.
"Obviously we need to rectify this wrongdoing to your childhood." the trill says. She pulls Kitty aside and whispers into her ear. Kitty's eyes light up with excitement.
"Oh yes! Oh yes yes yes!!"
She grabs James arm and nearly drags him out of the room, with Azviel following them, grinning uncontrollably from both affection towards the two nerds and the plan she has created.
"Activate program ice rink-01, and open doors when ready." Kitty says to the holosuite computer. James looks on in fear.
"What if I slip?!" James says, "What if the blade flies off my foot and hits one of you!!?"
Azviel places a finger on the frantic engineer's lips and makes a 'ssh' sound.
"You've been in more dangerous situations in the mess hall, you dork" Kitty says as the doors open. They revealed an empty, average sized ice skating rink. Three pairs of skates hang from the wall. Kitty and Azviel pull James on the ice as the trio makes their way down to the skates. Azviel and Kitty strap on their skates and skate out onto the ice, while James tries to figure out how to put them on.
"You have two degrees in physics and engineering and you can't even put on ice skates?" Kitty shouts to him, while her and Azviel perform elegant figure 8's.
"I'll show you who has two degrees..." James mutters under his breath. He slowly finishes putting on the skates and cautiously rises. He hobbles onto the ice. After much deliberation, James makes a small step to start skating. Needless to say, he does not start skating. He falls, face-first, onto the ice. Kitty cringes as she watches him fall, and Azviel speed skates over to James, who has decided to not move from the position he fell in.
"Oh my goodness, James are you alright?" Azviel says as she slides next to James. He replies with a painful groan. Kitty rushes to his side and checks his head.
"Oh, you're fine!" Kitty says with a relieved sigh. "Come on, you dork, let's get you up." Azviel and Kitty hoist James up by his arms, who over-dramatically groans.
"My face feels like a pancake" James moans. Kitty just rolls her eyes in response.
"Come on, let's take this slow then." Azviel says, directing James on how to properly skate. After several slip-ups and with the assistance of Kitty and Azviel, James finally figures out how to do it. He does a little figure 8 and throws his hands up in triumph. Azviel and Kitty cheer as if he won gold in the Olympics.
After he performed a glorious victory lap, he decided to head back over to the other two. However, James neglected to figure out how to stop. So James headed top speed towards Kitty and Azviel. The two didn't realize this until it was too late. James barreled straight into them, knocking them all over onto the ice.
They lied there in silence, until Azviel bursts out laughing. She's joined by Kitty and James seconds later.
"I- I think that's enough," Azviel manages to say through her gut-wrenching laughing, "Computer, end program."
The cold surface of the ice rink disappears and is replaced by the familiar floor of the holosuite. Still aching from the collision, the three hobble their way back to James' quarters, where they lie down on the couch in exhaustion.
"I don't think I'll ice skate again for a while.." James says through a slightly muffled voice, as Kitty somehow managed to lie on top of him. "And, uh, Kitty?"
"Yeah, James?"
"You're kind of on my head"
"And?"
"Well, uh, yeah." James sighs. "Okay fair enough." He never says anything about it again.
The next day the three wake up with awful bed-heads and sleepy limbs which made getting ready for shift a nightmare.
