Many people liked my embroidery, so I decided to show it in the process 🙂

some poor starfleet man: i’m s orry y are you implying you put a man in your sh i p ?

data, sort of confused: no? he put himself there?

"Yes, certainly, Counselor. What is it?"

"If you have stored Lal within your own memory drive, does that mean you are able to feel human emotion like she did?"

For a moment, Data contemplated her question. Then he replied, "No, Counselor. I retain only Lal's memories, not her capacity for emotions."

"But surely, since she was feeling being, her emotions would've been mixed up in her memories."

"That is true of any other being whose memories I store. For example, the colonists from Omicron Theta. But I do not feel them myself. I simply retain them."

"But surely," Troi tried again, "those emotions have some affect on you. You may be an emotionless android, but every now and then I feel you are becoming more human all the time."

"Why, thank you, Counselor. But I am not human. At least, not yet."

"But perhaps those memories help," said Troi. "Perhaps those thoughts and behaviours affect your own thoughts and behaviours more directly than interacting with us can. Perhaps they can teach you about human thoughts and behaviour even when you don't have anyone around you to observe."
